David R Whitcher Builder, Inc. was founded in the spring of 1967 and later incorporated in 1971.  Its mission was to develop a reputation as a respected builder offering quality and value within the New Hampshire marketplace.  In its first 10 years, the company grew in both volume and stature.  Whitcher developed a 350-acre tract of land known as Whig Hill Estates in Strafford , NH and began taking on a variety of commercial projects.

A good deal of our early work focused on the development of municipal and community related projects.  During the 1970s, we constructed the Durham Town Hall and Police Department, Dover Police Department, Dover District Court, Northwood Town Hall , Strafford Town Hall , Advent Church in Durham and a number of projects for the University of New Hampshire . 

Our staffing increased during those years to include several project managers and field superintendents, as well as over 20 carpenters.  As the 1980s began, we developed a solid base of both residential and commercial/community clients.

Whitcher was selected to construct the Guidance Center and Halfway House at the Strafford County Complex, Newington Police Department, Alton Police Department and an addition to Coe-Brown Northwood Academy .  We were also chosen to build several Housing Authority projects in Portsmouth , Dover , Rochester and Exeter , additions to the Strafford School , a bank in Pittsfield and numerous State of New Hampshire projects, including rehab to several state parks, office buildings and district courts.

In the mid-80s, Whitcher’s focus became noticeably more commercial, and we added trained staff, computerized, strengthened our estimating department and became involved in several formal training programs.  By 1990, over 75% of our business was commercial in nature, with more than 60% of these public projects.

Over the past ten years, Whitcher Builders has risen to the top tier among building contractors, regarded as a highly respected competitor in the New Hampshire market and listed as among the top 20 construction firms within the state since 1996.  Among our community-related clients/projects during the past several years: Rye Airfield Extreme Sports Park, Jac Pac Foods, Rochester Visiting Nurses, Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, Dover High School, Dover Alternative School, and the Horne and Garrison Kindergartens in Dover.

Other recent work includes an airline terminal at Madbury Fire Station, Atkinson Fire Station, Hampton Police Department, J-Pac Manufacturing , Durham Community Church, Maplewood Elementary School, and a number of State of New Hampshire parks and historic projects.

Whitcher Builders remains committed to quality construction and continuing to expand its staff, equipment and procedures so as to retain its high stature.  Our Construction Management teams have successfully demonstrated their knowledge and abilities working within the Construction Management and General Contracting framework. 

Over the last several years, the following projects have been successfully completed using these project delivery systems:  Wentworth Country Club, Pease Bus Terminal, Seabrook Welcome Center, Granite State Independent Living, The Farragut at Kennebunk Assisted Living Complex, Sunrise Health Care, Bellamy River Village, Secretariat Estates, and Meredith Bay Village.
